Whew, semester is over. Nothing left… but the grading. Blargh. Oh well. Time, and past time, for the yearly barrage of holiday commercialism here at Vikings, Books, etc. But look, if you really don’t give a darn about cuddly vikings or Thor in a Santa suit, or could care less about doing your part for economic recovery via the glorious realm of the interwebz, well… do it out of charity. Or pity, whatever. Help a starving visiting professor make it through the year, so he can have a chance at another position in the Fall (speaking of which, please let me know if you have an open position for a Norse mythologist who likes to draw cartoons…) After you’ve done your pity-buying and have twelve mugs of Thor-Santa for all your nieces and nephews, you may feel like some more serious Christmas shopping. Well, OK, I can get behind that. My belated Christmas gift/reading recommendations can be found here, here, and here–but I’ll try to find some time for a 2012 Christmas recommendations list. I’ve definitely got a few more selections which I would be happy to bring attention to.
I’ve been too busy to finish any winter-themed pics so far this year, but don’t worry, I’ve got some underway. Meanwhile, here are my Christmas/Winter themed pics from last year. Click the picture to reach the DeviantArt page for the picture, from which you can buy prints or mugs. Note that there are two versions of the Thor-as-Santa picture–the long one fits better on a mug, and the more squarish one has more options as a print. And look, I may not be the most professional illustrator of Norse myths out there, but I’m one of the only ones putting Thor in a Santa hat. And if there isn’t any demand for that, then I give up on the whole capitalistic enterprise.
I realize it’s a bit late to get prints, mugs, magnets, etc delivered in time for Christmas (you might make it if you order today–but if it is the first time a product has been ordered, it takes a bit longer), so keep in mind that downloads are available as well. You can buy my Viking illustrations as a bundle for REALLY cheap, and my two wintry pics above are available for free download still. Keep in mind that they can also be purchased as greeting cards or postcards, in case you need some holiday cards for next year…
And of course all my other Viking/Norse deity themed stuff is still there on DA for purchase. And here is a bunch of my speedpaints/landscapes that I’ve done the last year or so, in case you want something besides the pics that have shown up on this blog.
